Durch einen Beitrag von Günther Born bin ich auf den Windows Security Dienst 0Patch aufmerksam geworden. Die Einrichtung ist supereinfach und daher auch für nicht technisch versierte User zu empfehlen, die einfach nicht auf Windows 11 updaten können oder ihr Windows 10 Gerät behalten möchten, weil es noch tut, was es soll.
Microsoft hat hier einen wirklich dummen Move gemacht und ich werfe dem Konzern keine 30€ noch hinterher.
Wem das genauso geht, der sollte seinen Router gut absichern, Dienste in Windows 10 mit z.B. O&OShutup10 abstellen, den Defender gescheit einstellen und ggf auch die Liste der Dienste nach diesen Empfehlungen der IT mal durchgehen.
Es hat sich leider nach ein paar Wochen mit 0patch und den ersten Windows extended Support Updates ein „Phänomen“ entwickelt, welches ich den Entwicklern mitteilen muss:
I had considered using 0patch for Windows 10 to ensure operating system security. Unfortunately, I have to tell you about a problem that made it almost impossible for me to continue with music production. I use a Native Instruments sound solution and Ableton Live and experienced increasing audio dropouts. It got so bad that I could barely play an audio file without dropouts. LatencyMon showed heavy load on the kernel drivers, and even disabling Defender didn’t improve things. Only uninstalling 0patch solved the problem. I’m using an i7 4790 and DDR3 1600 RAM, but if 0patch creates such latency through DLL patching, the supposed security gains are of no benefit to me! The fan immediately spins up even though the system load is still moderate. Without 0patch, everything remains within normal limits. This is unfortunately not a good experience with your security solution, and I don’t want to have to check and manually disable 6000 DLL-Patches.
Kurz: 0Patch ist als Zusatz Security für meine Musikproduktion hinderlich 😕
